RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard)

What is RPS?

It is an obligatory policy for power supply business operators, which have more than 500MW power plant, to constitute certain proportion of its generation output with new & renewable energy.

REC, Renewable Energy Certificate

REC, Renewable Energy Certificate

· REC is for authenticating that the power is generated by new & renewable energy facility. Subjects of RPS policy can afford required output by purchasing REC.

· The issue of REC is granted for the amount—multiplication of required output of new & renewable energy with weighed value, considering the capacity of the plaint on MW/h basis.

Goal

For the goal of creating 1 million units of Green Home until 2020, government supports certain amount of installation costs when new & renewable energy equipment, such as sunlight, solar heat, geothermal, and fuel cell, is installed in the house.

Village unit

More than equal to 10 detached house or apartment house within same minimum administration region (ri and dong)—in case of island without a bridge connected to lands, more than equal to 5 houses.

Correctional, broadcasting communication, and business facilities (military facility is excluded)

Education and social service use

Cultural, rally, religious, medical, educational, accommodation, training, exercise, cemetery, tourist, and funeral facilities

Commercial use

Business, sales, transporting, accommodation, and amusement facilities
